PROSE FROM THE PRES – Margo Kealey
March was our 'spring forward' meeting beginning with a Dolly Day. Thanks once again to Jean Buzza who made the effort to get Maki House open for us to use, with the time change she got an early start. Jean, we appreciate all you do for ADU. The members who attended had time to work on a few projects. We had plenty of snacks thanks to all who shared, and some excellent soup- (Peggy's recipe is included in the newsletter).
This month we enjoyed a UFO presentation by Diane Dent. Always entertaining, Diane's stories and show and tell gave us a new appreciation of those unfinished projects we all have stashed in our closets! What a wonderful talent she has from doll making, needle point, quilting and landscape painting, a truly gifted artist. Thank you Diane!
Our show and tell was another inspiration with a nice variety of fabric art creations and dolls.
This month we have a workshop given by Leslie Bailey at Algonquin college and another one planned for May with Kate Church, please check out the details. A June Retreat is planned so please consider joining in for a weekend of fun!
Next month we will not be having our Dolly Day as scheduled but Peggy has a beaded heart project that will be our afternoon program. It's our Easter Eggsravaganza meeting with 'April showers brings May flowers' show and tell- think about what you can bring along!
In closing I would like to say that we need any of you who are in a position to help out with our monthly set up and clean up. As it so often happens a few of the same members end up being the clean up crew and I really don't want to take advantage of their good will. Please let Judy know if you would be willing to help out during our April or May meetings and we will need make some plans for our June picnic as well. We all know the saying- many hands make light work and I'm asking for your helping hand. We are so very fortunate to have the Maki House location to use each month and we need to do our best to leave it clean and tidy with the tables put away and the garbage collected. Let's not overburden anyone with this responsibility. Thank you.
Always a pleasure!
Take care ladies.

Your club members might also be interested to know that I am teaching two classes at the Creativ Festival in Toronto as well as having a booth. I haven't got dates for the two classes that I have designed exclusively for the Creativ Festival, however, if the members want to know more they can see my teaching calendar on my blog here:
I have a few free projects in mind that I will hopefully get to create and post to the blog in the next month or so, so keep an eye out for those. If you want to re-publish any of those in the newsletter, please let me know.

Florida USA Classes
Hello Roberta, I am on a couple of doll groups on line with Rose and I thought you might find this interesting and perhaps send this on to the doll club? Rose holds classes every year. hugs aileen
Good morning ladies Subject: Classes for 2011
I have the opportunity to have several teachers this year. Linda Misa is coming from Tasmania to teach at AFIC. She could come and teach for me weekend of May 7-8 or May 14-15 or May 21-22.
She is willing to design a doll just for our class. Or can teach a class where we design and make our own dolls based on sculpting paperclay for the head and cloth bodies. I'm enclosing her two sites so you can see what she does.
I will need a minimum of 8 students and a max of 10 to make the cost reasonable for everyone.
I will also have the chance to have Susie McMahon return to teach a new doll for us as well. She also works in paper clay. Her painting methods are outstanding.
Since she will be here about the same time as Linda, due to her teaching at both MM & M held this time in Tampa Florida with Annie Hesse as host and also AFIC (that class is totally booked). I need some input so that I can get more information on what they will teach and get actually dates listed.
Once we have these two classes in motion I will send you information on 2 other teachers that would love to come this year as well. Hope the weather is not as bad where you are as it is here in Carroll County Maryland.
I'm sure the snow will remain until at least August. Hugs Rose G

Beaded Heart
Using surface beading techniques we will be embellishing some small ultra suede ® hearts. After beading these can be appliquéd to a stuffed heart or other surface and used as a brooch or other application.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BRING:
There will be red ultra suede hearts available but feel free to bring another colour or shape if you so wish.
-One ‘large’ focal bead, button or charm, (approx. 1.5 cm)
-One or two medium sized buttons or beads
-Coordinating and contrasting beads, seed and bugle beads, charlottes, crystals are all useful. Note, although the inexpensive dollar store, and “Wal-Mart” beads will work they are not consistent so the results may be quite irregular.
-Strong fine beading needles (bring several as they do break.
-Beading thread of your choice. You can get coloured beading thread to match your beads and/or the background. Regular fine white thread will do.
-Sharp scissors.
-Beading mat (Lisa gave out quite a few a few months ago. You can buy them at Fabricland or a bead shop. They are very useful as they hold the beads up off the surface and make it easier to pick up individual beads
-A tiny coffee spoon can help to get the beads back into the containers.
