Peter Pot Peeper with Maria Saracino

Last Sunday we had the privilege of having Maria Saracino (www.saracino.ca, www.mariasaracino.com), polymer and multi-media artist, come to our meeting and give us a workshop.

She guided us in making  "Peter Pot Peeper" out of polymer clay on a pot we brought from home.  Here are Maria's samples:

It was a great workshop and we all had a lot of fun.

And here are some of our finished pieces.

A Garden of Inspiration Retreat Update

Just a quick update on progress with our plans for the June Retreat.

Tuesday Mornings with Lisa

Some ADU members have been meeting at Lisa’s every other Tuesday (March 5 is our next morning get together).  If you can join us come any time after nine and bring a sandwich for lunch if you will be staying over lunch.  Lisa will have coffee and tea on. We have been working on items for our challenges and table favours.  It is amazing how much gets accomplished in a few hours when you get a group of people together.
If you want to help but can’t come on Tuesdays there will be other opportunities to help.

Learning Circles

Kathy White who is coordinator for the Beading Learning Circle has already completed several samplers to show what can be done and is working on a lesson plan for a special creation that will incorporate the theme of the conference. She says that she would welcome any ideas for things people might like to try.  Kathy does some amazing beading so if there is something you have always wanted to try but have been afraid to, let Kathy know.

Cheryl, Val and Nancy have been testing some materials to be used in their “Transforming Fabric” and ”Upcycling, Recycling and Just Playing” Learning Circles.
 Donations
We have received lots of things for raffle and door prizes.  If you have any donations for either of these activities, pass them on to Cheryl but not until April.  Cheryl moved recently and needs a few weeks to get settled before she can provide a home for these things.  Roberta has everything that has been donated so far.  We have some great things in the collection.
Any donations for delegate bags go to Margo for safekeeping.
 Registrations
Registrations are starting to come in.  It looks as if the workshops may fill fairly quickly so if there is a particular one that interests you, register soon to avoid disappointment.

Table Centrepiece Challenge
If you are planning to create a centrepiece for the challenge please contact Peggy Wilson for some basic guidelines and to ‘register’ your intent.  We will be auctioning off the centerpieces but before that they will grace the tables during our closing banquet and will be judged for the Peoples Choice award by all our attendees.

An excerpt from the Home Page
We are very pleased that you have come by to visit our site. We hope that you take the time to see all that the Fabri-Licious Retreat has to offer in the way of education and fun happenings
What :
A special creative and motivational event designed to bring figurative artists, old and new, together to experience a week-end packed full with learning and sharing creative ideas, techniques and good times designed to enrich your doll making.

Why:
Many of us have taken a number of courses over the years and now feel the need to spend some time playing with the techniques we have learned and figuring out how they can most effectively contribute to our own doll artistry. Others may be new to doll making and are feeling bombarded by all the information available on new materials and techniques and wondering where do go with all this information. This Retreat is designed to meet the needs of both groups.

Who:
All Dolled Up Ottawa is an Ottawa based cloth doll club which is fourteen years old. Club members have hosted two major doll conference in the past five years – the CDAA (Canadian Doll Artists Association) conference in 2007 and the FAC (Figurative Artists Consortium) conference in 2009 in addition to the 2011 Fabri-Licious Retreat.

The Figurative Artist Consortium is a non-profit organization designed to provide a safe and inviting setting for figurative artists, from beginner to the most experienced, to meet, share, and grow. FAC hosted a very successful conference in 2009 with the help of ADU members. The high level of interest in demos of technique and in our Creative Play Station in 2009 convinced us that the time was right to offer a retreat which would focus on techniques and materials designed to enrich your cloth doll and other fibre artistry.
The Retreat will offer a chance to relax with like minded people and enjoy learning through sharing.
We have a wonderful line-up of Learning Circles that will tickle your creative side and teach you new techniques to create wonderful figurative art. We won’t stop there.
For $125 (plus the cost of $48 per night for a Residence room) delegates get to take part in all the fun. Check out the FAC website for all the details.
